By Andrew Collins. One of the largest and most entertaining such events in the country to take place in July, San Diego LGBT Pride draws thousands of spectators and participants to a massive festival, and more than , spectators for huge parade. It takes place in the middle of the month, July 15 to 17, , and pulls in folks from throughout Southern California. San Diego is also relatively cool in the summertime, making it a great destination if you're looking for a place to beat the July heat. A highlight is the raising of the ginormous rainbow flag over Hillcrest - at square feet, it's hard to miss it! There will also be carnival rides, food trucks, bars, and dancing, and then afterward there's a big party at the legendary gay dance club, Rich's.

Depending on the country or city where the event is being held, the marches and parades often campaign for recognition and acceptance of same-sex marriage, legal protections for couples and families, anti-discrimination laws or trans rights. As the years went on, additional cities in North America and Europe began to hold their own public demonstrations or pride day, eventually leading to what we know today as a gay pride parade, march, celebration or festival. This event calendar includes more than listings, but you can sort and filter the list by region and date to determine where you want to go or when to plan your trip.
